From Michael Mersman, Operations and Volunteer Programs Director

As we begin the process of resuming our client programming, this month, instead of honoring a current volunteer, we thought it would be a great time to develop NEW volunteers!

We have so many different volunteer opportunities spread between our two locations, and you do not need to be horse savvy to volunteer at StableStrides! You just need the desire to help an amazing group of people with special needs.

Sidewalkers are advocates for StableStrides clients during Adaptive Riding and Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy sessions at our Latigo location. They provide both physical and emotional support for the rider.

Horse Leaders are responsible for the horse’s safety and control at all times in both Adaptive Riding and Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy classes at our Latigo location. Horse Leaders reinforce the rider’s signals to the horse and maintain proper spacing in the arena while walking, changing directions, and passing.

Mental Health Horse Handlers maintain a safe environment by handling the therapy horse and supporting the clients in our Mental Health sessions at our Norris-Penrose Event Center location.

To learn more about the exciting volunteer opportunities at StableStrides, please visit our website at https://www.stablestrides.org/volunteer, or email our Operations and Volunteer Director at [email protected].

We hope to see you in the barn while we improve the lives of our clients through a connection with horses!
